"Oh my darlyn Clementine" haha. Sorry for bursting right away into song. Clementine is the name of Mikes new band. Last Friday a couple of us got to cruse downtown to watch the debut performance and it was AMAZING! No offense to the past but that was the best i've seen Mike. He even got me and Pete to jump on stage at different times too. It was great to see Pete act like it he couldn't jam anymore then jump up and KILL IT! and yes my friends, i have pictures to prove it.

Neekole was there too! The night was a fun little 808 reunion mixed with some of the best hot chocolate in Utah, stellar tunes, and a ending desire to hang out MORE! :).

Disclamer: Excelpt for this top photo from Neekole "Thanks" the rest are from my phone so the quality is worthless but the moments are...priceless LOL. I have a quality camera but its a pain to carry everywhere. I need to get me a pocket kine so i can make for da bettah picktahs :). Enjoy.

Hey guys. Just dropping in to let you guys know how our little gathering went. It was so fun to see old friends and i really liked seeing our kids running around playing together. We had some great grinds at Andrea's house then went out to the drive in. Andrea and her family are seasoned drive in goers and brought like 20 chairs! One downside was that i guess its not summer nights just yet cause when the sun went down it got pretty cold. Still good fun and i'm looking forward to doing it again. I hope next time we can get more people and kids out. Here are some pictures i took of our gathering. Enjoy :)

NICOLE FRANCISCOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Born and Raised in Hawaii. Living in the 808 from 1982-2000. She left for 2 years after graduating from Kahuku class of 2000 to BYU Provo then came back and attended BYU-H from 2002-2004. Didn’t finish there though “Drop out style” she says. I think maybe because she got to distracted making awesome cups and pots with me and Reggie in ceramics class (remember that?LOL), hunting down the nearest Radiohead concert, and planning her next tattoo design and location haha. That latest Radiohead one looks awesome by the way!

“I'm just working at the U, neurology clinic. No, I'm not going into medicine, it's just a job that cuts my tuition in half. I also volunteer for a couple different animal organizations in Utah. I love it. I volunteer for no more homeless pets, Community Animal Welfare Society, and the Ching farm Animal Sanctuary."

"LETS MEET"

Probably not word you want to hear from someone online but hey, you know me haha. So here's the deal friends, i know not all of us are in Utah but a good number of us are. With the good weather we've been having FINALLY!!(in the 70s and 80s) i think it's time we hang out. Mandy and I hung out at Andrea's on Sunday and we thought it'd be fun to have everyone come out and join us for some food and a drive in? that's right i said DRIVE IN :). Old school and oh so fun. Dont give us the "i have kids" excuse haha because we pile our 3 little ones (all under 5 yrs) in our little car and go out and have a fun time. Andrea got us going and it's perfect for this time of year, your kids will be able to run around this type of theater, and we can catch up.

So here's how its going to go down and we'd love to see all of you who can make it. I mean, we'd like to see those that cant too but "you know what i mean" :)

Auguste | The Toluta'u Family

Gusto! A.k.a Kalisi , a.k.a. Samuela, a.k.a Tongan stud muffin hahaha. Re-meet Auguste Toluta'u.FYI, I grew up with Gusto in Tonga way back in the days. Back and dem true hanabadah days. Gusto’s been busy and up to some great things so let’s catch up with him.

Auguste lived in Hawaii from 1991 to 2005. Kahuku class of 1999 , BYUH class of 2005, and also getting his masters at BYU in 2007. Gusto got his degrees in Information Systems.

Now married with two children Auguste’s wife’s name is Elsie Moleni from New Zealand. She is a very talented singer/song writer and some of you may have heard of here brothers The Moleni Borthers. Their album kept me company on my mission and my favorite track on the album was actually written by Elsie. Sorry, side tracked for a sec. The Toluta’u kids Emmie Wetekia Toluta’u (2 years old) and Auste Sixto Toluta’u (0 years old haha). Beautiful kids and I am putting money down now that little Gusto will be in the NFL :).

The Toluta’u’s are now living in Murray Utah while Auguste is working as a technical consultant and programmer at the University of Utah. Elsie is a great stay at home mom and works at gold gym part time.

This is why I love Gusty. I asked him what his future plans are and he said this: “Travel the country for work. Have seven kids. Retire early and serve lots of missions. :-)” Only this guy can have his whole life plan in 15 words. Love it! Always keeping it real. I think I want to copy his plans now too. All of it except for the 7 kids haha.

Where have you traveled? “Mostly Utah and Hawaii. Went on a summer trip to Tonga, New Zealand, Australia.”

What do you miss the most about the old days?
“I miss playing in band, playing tennis, and dancing at PCC.”

Where was your peaceful place in Hawaii?
“The Temple.”

If you went back to Laie for one day what would you do? “Spear some fish.”

Aaron Eskaran

Aloha friends. Re-introducing the multi-talented Aaron Eskaran!! At times life may distract this guy but when he gets into something he really attacks things to the fullest. Take for example the flying Hawaiian picture above. First time in the winter snow and already he is shredding like a pro :). Aaron is a very inspiring, creative force to be around, you’ll SEE what I mean once your done reading this post.

Aaron is a true local boy. Born and raised in Hawaii in December of 81. I remember the first time the boys left the rock was when they went to the Rose Bowl with the Kahuku Marching Band. I think that was maybe junior year. After that Aaron never left the islands until it was time for him to serve a mission in Japan in April 2001.
Kahuku Grad class of '99 Aaron got into the arts and music while in high school. Playing trumpet from 7th grade on Aaron also joined local band RUKUS, now known as UPSTANDING YOUTH! Aaron plays and sing backup vocals for UY. They have played tons of shows, opened for big international bands, and even toured the west cost.

After the mish Aaron returned to BYU-Hawaii and got right into the arts. If any of you have seen his paintings or his photography you know what I’m talking about. Breathtaking. See for yourself.

Aaron graduated from BYU-Hawaii with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2006 then last year moved on to get his masters from BYU-Provo where he is working on that currently. Aaron is an aspiring photographer and does wedding, photo shoots, the works…so if you in the area and need some family pictures or head shots give this guy a call. He says “I hope to be a free lance artist that can do it all.”

Aaron is dating Johanna Franco from Maryland. He says “Awesome beautiful girl who I met on a hike on the stairway to heaven just before I left to Grad School.” They have both been hanging out in Provo for the last year and now are on the road to Johanna’s home in Maryland for a little bit then both back to Hawaii for spring and summer fun.

Travels? “I went on a mission to Nagoya, Japan the same time as Adam. I have also been on tour with Uptstanding Youth during the summer of 2007 to Hollywood CA, Las Vegas Nevada, Albuquerque New Mexico, Provo Utah, and back to Cali to play a show in Santa Monica. Other than that Kahuku,Hawaii. And a bunch of times to Maui and the Big Island.”

What’s up with the band? “Upstanding Youth is going strong and we are hoping to tour the East Coast at the end of this upcoming summer. We are working on a new album and the recording for that has already begun. We are aiming for that to be done before we go on tour so we have a new product to sell.” Keep an eye on www.upstandingyouth.com

What are your future plans? “Get married and catch up with the rest of you”

What do you miss the most about the old days?
“Not having to worry about anything other than where the best waves were going to be the next day… and running around in the mountains with Lona. Just chillin’ with the boys when we all had no girls! Haha Playing football on Moana St.” Good times.

Where was your peaceful place in Hawaii?
“On the point at Pounders. I have gotten some of my best photos from that angle. I sit up there for hours just watching and thinking about life.”

If you went back to Laie for one day what would you do? “Spend time with my family who is there and see my niece (Adam’s daughter Ava).”

Tell me something you've learnt in the last 10 years:
“Life throws you curve balls at you all day and sometimes you miss even though you know its coming.”

Michelle | The Woods Family

Michelle Woods (Kehoe) is a bundle of talent and spunk! Always has been and I doubt she will ever stop. Me being the short guy in Vocal Motion usually put my dancing with the shortest girl which would be Michelle. Before that was her equally sized sister Mandy. Those dancing days are long gone and I wish I still had the moves hahaha.

So let’s catch up shall we. :)

Michelle lived in Hawaii from 1992 to 2001 coming back to the North Shore on and off though probably forever. Her family moved to Laie point (remember that house? I do. That house had a firkin elevator! haha) from Northern California. Graduating with the 2000 crew from Kahuku Michelle soon after spent Spring of 2001 at BYU-Provo and went on to get her BFA there as well in Photography and a minored in Advertising. She started on her Masters degree but the power of love took over and she got married and moved to California instead. She still plans to finish up some time in the next 5 years though.

Michelle married Frank Reginald Woods II (aka Reggie) from West Jordan, Utah. Michelle says “leave it to me to find the one Mormon black guy in Utah ;))” LOL. That’s so racist haha. Just playing ;P. They were married in the Laie Hawaii Temple on May 19th 2007 and now live in live in Southern California. Irvine but plan on getting a place in Aliso Viejo “with the most amazing view.” No kiddies just yet but are having fun being kids themselves. Get a room! Haha.

Travel List | Where have you been that last 10 years?
“Lets see I've been to Canada a few times, Mexico and Europe. California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska (The picture or Reggie on the boat is from Alaska), Idaho, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, DC and well a number of other states. So I like to travel what can I say.”

So what’s going on now? “We're just working and playing. Reggie is a Financial Advisor for Merrill Lynch and I teach high school photography but my favorite thing is doing my freelance work. We're buying a house as we speak so if all goes well we'll have a luau and pool party at our new place in Southern California before you know it.” Count me in for the pool party!

Future plans? “Reggie loves his job and he's amazing at it and well I can do photography anywhere so it looks like we'll be in Southern California for a while. If things change we'll head up to the bay area (San Francisco) but besides that I'm stay as close to the ocean as possible. My parents are still in Sunset so it's a quick 5 hour flight to the North Shore any time I get home sick but besides that California will have to do.”

Michelle’s photography is EPIC! We have a bunch of awesome photographers from our group as a mater of fact. Mrs. B must have done some good for you guys hey? She inspired me that’s for sure.
Anyways, Meesh should have a photography website up and running in the next few months. “I'm just super picky about everything so it's been hard getting everything exactly how I want it. Plus I'm super busy with everything else but someday it will be www.michellekwoods.com.” FYI for now that website is home to a blue sun it looks like haha. Pretty awesome but not as awesome as your photos so get on it!!

What do you miss the most about the old days?
“Clean beaches! California is warm, beautiful and convenient but the beaches are a far cry from those of the North Shore.”

Where was your peaceful place in Hawaii?
“My parent’s deck. It over looks more than half the beaches on the North Shore. What's not peaceful and amazing about that.”

If you went back to Laie for one day what would you do? “I'd drive up to Sunset to be with my parents. :) My family left Laie when I got to Kahuku High so I was one of the few members of the group that actually commuted to Laie when I needed to be there.” Well fine den! Hahaha. Frik! Laie wouldn’t want to hang out with you N-E-WAYS! hahahahaha. HAAIIIITERRR! (Read that in a Laie chevron drag queen voice)

Tell me something you've learnt in the last 10 years? I've learned to work hard and play even harder. I'm sure that will change once we have kids but in the mean time . . .

Andrea | The Low Family

ANDRIA!!!!!!!!!! Hey guys. Here’s Andrea and her family. The Low family! Andria Low, formally known as Hopkinson moved to Laie early 1999. Some of you might remember the bitter sweet emotions she had about being in Laie which I totally understand. Who would want to leave their home town mid Senior year? Not me! She came and we’re glad she did. The Hopkinson house was the bomb (who says that anymore? “I do”) on Sunday nights.

Andrea graduated class of 99, tried a year at BYU-Hawaii then moved back to Utah in 2000.

Andrea met her husband Court (Courtland) Low in April of 1995, had their first date April 18th 1998 (happy anniversary guys!) and then married in April 13th 2001. Court’s from South Jordan, UT. He works with Disabled teens that’ve been removed from their homes. In the fall he'll be going back to school to finish his Bachelors Degree in Social Work and Criminal Justice! Right now Andrea is being a full time mom and working full time for a health insurance company. She says “I work from home, so yes I do both full time!” Doesn’t get any better then that. The Lows have been living in Murray Utah for 4 years and plan on being there for a while so if your in the neighborhood make sure and stop by.

What do you miss the most about the old days? “Late night runs to 7 Eleven with Heather - Melona bars, I'd never had one till we moved there and I LOVE them!!!! And Cereal nights - we should totally start those up again, the first one can be at my house!!!!!”

The Kongaika’s and the Low’s have caught the drive in movies on redwood last year and as soon as this Utah weather figures out what its doing we plan on heading out again. Derek Smith | NEW BABY!!

Hey friends. Some of you might remember Derek Smith. He was in Laie from his 6th-9th grade years with us. I wont do a full update on him but i wanted to let you all know about his new bundle of joy. Introducing KOVEN DEREK SMITH.

I dropped in on the Proud daddy and Derek and wife Hailee are very excited about the new addition. Koven is 5 days old in these pictures.

Brooke | The Tu'ifua Family

Brooke Tu’ifua a.k.a Brooke Barker is in the house! Joining the Moana Street crew back in 94 most of us know the Barker family. Her brother Brandon was in the 2000 crew. The Barkers were always seemed laid back and fit right in with the island styles.

Brooke lived on Moana Street from 1994 to 2001, except for a year (97-98) when her dad traded teaching spots with another BYU Provo professor. She spent her Freshman year in Utah. She graduated from Kahuku High School in 2001 and took off back to BYU Provo. In 2005 Brooke graduated from BYU with a degree in English.

Brooke was no match for resisting the ‘horse force’ and fell in love with Tongan stud and soldier Vakameilalo (Vaka) Tu’ifua. Vaka is from Mu’a. I grew up with the Tu’fuas and know Vaka and his family very well. I probably could'nt name all his siblings as I think he has like 40 of them hahaha. Tongan style :).

I asked Brooke how they met and she said “ I have to share how we met cause its a great story. :) I had just ended a long, bad relationship and a friend told me she had a friend I should email, that it was safe because I couldn't date him because he was deployed to Iraq. So I did. :) Long story short, he got injured and returned sooner than planned and we met for the first time in April 2006 in Hawaii... I was going back to visit after 5 long years away and he was going to visit his family. It just so happened that his oldest sister and brother-in-law, Annetta and Hopate Taufa had been in my ward growing up with Annetta as my YW leader for all 6 years. Small world. :) He moved back to Utah a few weeks after our vacation to finish school, we were engaged that October and married in Laie in June 2007.” Brooke and Vaka now live in Draper, Utah.

Just over a year of being married the Tu’ifuas are having their first baby due September 14th. “We are very excited, especially now that morning sickness is over.” They will be finding out about the sex of the baby in a little bit here. Brooke is cheering for a girl and Vaka is hoping for a boy. My guess Is a boy :). They got a lot of kids to make to reach the Tongan standard of 50 kids haha. Just playing, Kind of :) haha.

What kind of travels have you done? “Not much of a world traveler yet, but that should change. :) We did go down to Mexico for our Honeymoon, and we're planning a trip to Tonga in summer 2009 and hope to stop in both Australia and New Zealand on the way. I worked as an EFY counselor for 4 years during college and traveled all over the western US for that. We spent last Thanksgiving in San Fran/Oakland, and of course, we're always traveling back to Laie. :)”

Tell us some future plans? “Move to Hawaii as soon as Vaka graduates in 2010 (so far away!). We hope he'll be able to get a good electrician job so we can move right back to the island. School is the only thing keeping us in Utah :( . Once Vaka is done with school, I want to go back and get my Masters in Cultural Studies.”

What do you miss the most about the old days? "The simple, carefree life in Laie. The 'no worries' attitude. The good ole social days of high school, filled with football games, dances, etc."

Where was your peaceful place in Hawaii? same as everyone else, THE BEACH.

If you went back to Laie for one day what would you do? "We're going back in June and I am excited to go back and not have to plan a wedding!! I plan to eat lots and lots of L&L, Laie Chop Suey, breakfast at Hukilau Cafe, plate lunches on Saturday and maybe I'll get lucky and they'll have Food Fest while we're there. I'd love to go out to Goat Island and hike Laie Falls like old times, but since I'll be 7 months pregnant, I'll probably just spend lots of time layin on the beach!!"

Tell me something you've learnt in the last 10 years? "Take risks!! Don't wait for tomorrow to live your life."

Kickin it with Mike and Ben

Some of you might remember this photo. Mike, Ben, Pete, and Ryan jamming on the back of a truck as they road around in a laie parade playing jams for the masses. This is not an official update on Mike and Ben but more memories revisited after handing out with them on Tuesday night.

Mike and Ben came with me to an open mic night in Draper. Mike and I were kind of out of our element because there was 360 degrees of love in the air with stud, duds, and Utah chicks at every turn. Ben on the other hand i think was all about this place hahaha. I think he even got a number or two! Ladies and gentlemen how does he do it!? haha. Long story short: I played, we cracked jokes,and it was fun :) (short enough for ya?)

The real reliving the past began at our private after party at the stomach turning Rancheritos! hahaha. Nothing like talking story over a Bacon Egg and Cheese Breakfast burrito at 1 in the morning! What made it even crazier was Mike had to be up for work at 3 and I had to be up for work at 4. Mike ended up not sleeping at all that night. Sorry about that dude :). I got a little nap before heading to work but in the end its all worth it for some music and good company.

Anyways. So we talked about the old days and the days to come but what i want to showcase in this post is the EVOLUTION OF GROMIT. I wish i had more classic pictures to balance out a ratio of old and new pictures but its all good. I think you'll enjoy the shots. FYI I took some of these from Aaron's flickr acount.

I'm not sure when the shot at the top of this post was taken but THIS picture was taken sometime around November of 2006. I'm guessing the guys are 7th or 8th grade in the top picture. Any guess? Betsy? You probably remember what kind of shorts your were wearing in that picture :).

When they first started rockin they called themselves Gromit. Not sure when they changed their name but in the more recent photos they are changed their names to STARSCREAM.

2008 and Ben and Mike are no longer on the rock anymore. They are both here in Utah for the time being. (side note) Peter is here in Utah to but that guy is ALWAYS M.I.A. and i think he is actually trying to hide from us most the time haha. Mike just started a new band here as well using craigslist.org to bring in some band mates. He is pretty stoked to be playing again. I play with Mike from time to time and have had the pleasure of being able to take him with me last August to Amsterdam to play a show. It was an EPIC trip and i was stoked to be able to take Pete and Mike with me. Nothing like sharing the stage with musicians you not only respect but like. Here are some pictures of the boys rocking it for CUBWORLD.

Betsy | The Kositwongsakul Family

FYI in 1991 when I moved to Laie my first friend was Betsy Moffat. Our parents knew each other in Tonga and she was the first person I met when I came to Hawaii that became my friend. From limbo parties at Betsy’s house to now so much has changed but I bet you she still remembers what she wore on the day she met you all and also all your birthdays :). Did you know she freakishly remembers stuff like that? Haha. Just one of the many reasons Betsy is the coolest chica in the 808 ;)

Betsy has lived in Laie since 1986. She is one of the chosen and is still living in the town of 293 :) “Lucky!” (in a Napoleon Dynamite voice). She did live in Salt Lake for a year from 2005 to 2006.

The Kositwongsakul family has done some traveling to place like Utah, Las Vegas, California, Oregon, Washington, Canada, Idaho, Arizona, Missouri, Kauai, Big Island, Thailand!
Betsy married Kris Kositwongsakul from Cerritos, California in June of 2004 in the Los Angeles Temple. They now have the cutest little girl Niki Nohea, who is 1 years old. Betsy is being a full-time mommy while Kris is finishing up his teaching certificate coming up in May and then they will see where they go from there.

I asked Betsy what their future plans are and she said “We hope to stay in Hawaii, hopefully a job opportunity is coming its way for Kris. I hope to stay in Hawaii for as long as I can. I want my kids raised here. And after living away from it I'm scared to leave it again.” Props to you guys for hanging in there. Okay guys lets all make bank and move back to Laie at least by the time our kids are in 7th grade :). I’d love that!

So what do you miss the most about the old days? “Freedom! Just being able to do whatever I wanted. And being with my friends. I miss having that entourage feeling. And dancing! I miss high school and college dances. Lame, I know.”

Where was your peaceful place in Hawaii? “I love being at the beach, day or night.”

What do you miss the most when you leave the island? “What I miss when I leave Laie is the lifestyle. While gone I miss the small town feel. But an ideal day for me now would be taking my daughter to the beach and having a BBQ with my family.”
Tell me something you've learned in the last 10 years? “That I have to grow up! I'm not happy about turning 26. I've had some awesome friendships along the way though. I've learned that nothing is a big deal. Life is great, enjoy it as it comes. I've learned that the Lord loves all of his children. I've learned how wonderful it is to be a mother.”

Lynn (Oba) Holm | The Holms Family

I remember when Lynn moved into Laie 2nd ward back in 1996. The First Noticeable thing was the awesome hair and an easy going attitude. I even got to be her dance partners a time or two in Vocal Motion. Good times. Lynn lived in Laie from 1996 to 2001 where she spend all four years of high school at Kahuku. Two weeks after graduating from Kahuku class of 2001 Lynn high tailed it out of Laie to BYU Provo. She came back to Laie for the next two summers to hang with the family until the Oba’s moved to Wisconsin (where they still are today FYI). Lynn graduated with a degree in English from BYU in 2005.

Two years into College Lynn found a stud muffin a.k.a Janson Holm and they got married in December 0f 2003. Janson is from the Boise, Idaho area. Lynn says “He's lucky things worked out because I had always said I wouldn't marry a guy from Idaho. He had sworn he'd never go to a church school, so I'm glad he changed his mind and came to BYU.” Lynn took her “perfect guy” and they where married in the Boise temple. Lynn and Janson have 2 beautiful little girls Grace, 2 years old, and Mari, 2 months old.Mari | 2 Months

After Lynn and Janson graduated TOGETHER in 2005 they moved out to the Chicago area. Janson’s going to podiatry school to become a foot doctor. I asked Lynn what she was up to and she says “What's happening for me on a daily basis is stuff like changing a dozen diapers a day, working with my Young Women for my calling, taking pictures and videos of my kids, exploring Chicagoland, hanging out with the kids…” The Holm’s hopes to have more kids, change more diapers, and next year Janson will be graduating and starting a 3 year residency somewhere in the country. They are not sure where they will end up permanently just yet.

The Holm family has traveled a bit as well hitting these places in the good old U.S of A: Northern Colorado, Idaho, Wisconsin, Utah, Las Vegas, Buffalo/Palmyra New York area, Niagara Falls, Kirtland, Nauvoo.

What do you miss the most about the old days?

Where was your peaceful place in Hawaii?

If you went back to Laie for one day what would you do?
Sleep in, or at least lay in bed and listen to the ocean and the wind blowing through the palm trees. Pick up breakfast in the McDonald's drive-thru because the kiddies would love it just like their momma did when she skipped seminary. Eat it at temple beach, walk from temple to Hukilau, letting the kids play and swim wherever. Drive through the small and big circle at BYUH, then drive by the temple and the high school. Grab a musubi to save for a mid-afternoon snack from the store across the street from the high school (if it's still there). Eat lunch at the shrimp shack in between the high school and turtle bay. Then head back to Laie to the PCC, showing the kids and husband the fun stuff. Grab chicken katsu at L&L and then try and pass my kids off on Lindsey or someone to go to the night show with my hubby. :)

Tell us something you've learnt in the last 10 years. "It's easy to lose yourself in your kids."

The Traveling Man | Daniel Evans

Okay so Daniels vocabulary is miles above mine (I actually think he reads the dictionary or a thesaurusorusrex) so I might be doing a bit more copy and pasting in this post haha. L&L Lincoln and Lynn got me thinking and I also decided to add a tool just for Daniels post to help those of us with Kahuku kine vocabs to understand a bit more with what’s going on LOL. Double click on any word from now on in this blog to see what different words might mean. I’m pretty sure this tool wont know what malasada is or maybe lupulu but you never know. Daniel is a busy moving, single ;) (Ladies!! Match maker Jake strikes again haha!), hard working, traveling man BUT! before we catch up with him here’s a little biggity ba-ba-background (add that to your vocabulary Answer.com haha)

Daniel lived in Laie from 1993 to 1999 the year he also graduated from Kahuku. He visited regularly and stayed on and off until his folks moved to Utah in 2002. His family lived in the old Shumway house.

I asked Daniel where he disappeared to after high school and heres what he said:
“I went to BYU for my first year and then came back to Hawaii to work and save some money before my mission. After two years in the Tokyo North mission I went back to BYU and eventually graduated with a double major in psychology and political science. Freaked out by the idea of immediately committing myself to more school, I took a job with a strategy consulting firm called Bain & Company (of Mitt Romney fame). After two years with them, I decided law school was for me and put in my applications (currently waiting with crossed fingers). In the interim, I wanted a distinctly different, more social good oriented experience, so I took a short term contract with an HIV-oriented NGO in Southern Africa to handle their procurement and supply chain logistics.”

I asked Daniel “Why Africa” and his answer is “1. To help people and 2. To utilize my consulting skills.” Way to go man! Daniel should be heading back to law school this fall which will take up the next few years of his life. He is also still trying to figure out what kind of law he wants to practice.

Always on the go Daniel has also been to a ton of other countries including (in no particular order) Canada, Mexico, Japan, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, Bolivia, Belize, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, England, Scotland, China, South Africa, Lesotho, France, Belgium, Italy, and Spain. A lot of that was work related, but there were some good trips in the mix.

What do you miss the most about the old days?
“The beach, the mountains, ya’ll, the simplicity of life, L&L’s lemon chicken (which the Utah location refuses to make), Loco Moco at the Hukilau Café, surfing at Goat Island, the drive to Kaneohe, crappy Chinese food at the place by Foodland, the list goes on and on”Photo of Pounders Beach | Jacked from Aarons Eskarans Myspace page
If you went back to Laie for one day, what would you do?
“Dawn patrol at Goats or V-land, breakfast/brunch at Hukilau Café, quick run up to Laie Falls, late lunch at L&Ls, walk from Temple to Goat Island and back (with maybe a dip at Hukilau along the way), and then a late afternoon and evening devoted to catching up on old times with whoever is still in town.”

Tell me something you’ve learnt in the last 10 years?
“If you are not happy with yourself as you are now, it is unlikely that changing where you live, who you date, or how much money you make will significantly change that fact.”
THE LAST FIVE:
- All time favorite band: After Cubworld (of course), I still find myself putting in Weezer’s Blue Album whenever I really need a break. Them and early Radiohead.
- Favorite local food: Kalua pork, no question
- Favorite beach: Where ever the fish are. Depends on what you’re feeling. Bodysurfing – Pounders (with a good swell). Surfing – depends on the swell, but around Laie, Goats, Chevrons, and Boilers all have their moments

- Obama or Your mama (a.k.a Hillary): I’m probably going to vote Republican (surprise, surprise). I’m all for a change, but both of the Dems are practically isolationary socialists. “Take a time out from trade,” seriously?

John Pierce | The Pierce Family

JOHN PIERCE | A.k.a Mister Construction.

I have to take my hat off to John because he is living the ‘Laie dream’ of actually being able to stay in Laie. I think he owns the record (him and probably Adam Eskaran) for being the ones taking the chance and holding on to the rock the longest. Hang in there man cause we all need people to see when we come visit :)

John has been in Laie since 1986!! Joining the rare ranks of the token white guys on the Kahuku Football Team :) Johns one of the meanest Defensive Backs I’ve ever seen on the 808 turf! He graduated from Kahuku in 99, served an honorable mission in the Philippines, then jumped right into working all out for his family construction company, Pierce Construction. Some of us guys have even been lucky enough to have the chance at some point to work with John on some projects whether it was cleaning the company garage, or working on a roof in PCC, or my personal favorite was doing some remodeling with him in the Laie Temple. The company is doing great and John is staying busy and also starting a job in Molokai soon. A cool goal I know John worked real hard at is he just got his Contractor’s License last year.

Most of us probably know Johns wife from going to school at Kahuku, her name is Lindsey Neal. She graduated from Kahuku in 98. They got married in December of 2001 and now have a family full of boys. This was pretty much a surprise as John is the only Boy in his family and Lindsey is from a family of all girls. His oldest boy Trevor is 5 years old, Devin is 2 and a half, and baby Kyle is now 3 months. John says that in the next 5 to 10 years he plans to build a new house (make sure you have a guest room bro) and also have their last child. I asked John where he has been over the last 10 years and his list of places included: Bacolod, Philippines, Kauai, Maui, Big Island, Molokai (for work on most), Iowa, Utah,, California (Disneyland), and Oregon.

Besides loving life in Laie with his family John says what he misses about the old days (and we are getting firkin old guys haha) is “how easy it was”. Amen to that brother! Good times.

Hey guys. Jake here. I had the idea to put this site together as I've been loving reading through a couple blogs online. I started searching and i found a lot of us old schoolers have our own personal and family blogs and i love it. I almost feel like I'm back in Laie chillin on Moana street catching up on whats happening. This got me thinking about the other people we all use to hang with that don't have blogs and almost seem to have fallen off the face of the earth. I keep in contact with a bunch of us old timers and i thought it would be cool to start blogging about whats new in everyones lives. Before you say "oh crap Jakes going to be bugging us to much" i want you to hear me out.

I have a list of 29 names from back in the day. As we all know there are groups that we hung out with that kind of overlapped each other like Adam and Aaron, and then Mike and Pete, Heather and Katie, Hala and Louis...different groups but all friends,get my flow? People we do and don't hear from anymore, I'd like to do updated posts on whats happening in all our lives.

Example: I'll hit up Gusto and get some updates from him and some pictures (pictures will make this so much funner) then I'll post the 411 about whats been going on with his family. So no work on your part just don't avoid me when I'm trying to talk to y'all hahaha.

I don't by any means have a ton of time to do multiple posts a week so this might be a every to every other week kind of thing. So i might actually be bugging you once a year for a post. Remember too that i was not in A.P classes at Kahuku nor was i in the G.T(Gifted and Talented) class at Laie schools so don't expect good kine grammar or awesome spelling from this X-FOB haha. BUT you can expect good times relived and updates from people you've been wondering about.
